Founder and Chief Executive Officer at Arlington Partners International

The Grocery Foundation is an Ontario-based non-profit established in 1979 when a group of grocery leaders in Ontario decided that it was time for their industry to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Canadian children. During the past 46 years that initial small group of retailers, food, beverage, CPG manufacturers and allied partners has blossomed into an industry-wide charitable foundation with a rich history of working effectively with the supply chain to secure and distribute funds to make a difference in the lives of children at risk of going to school on an empty stomach. Through the Grocery Foundation, the collective efforts of the membership have raised more than $100 million to benefit Canadian children’s charities and in addition, has also responded to many other community needs focused on the primary mission of getting nutritious food to hungry children.

The Grocery Foundation and its members continue to bring their genuine passion to advance the organization’s mission. With the vision of no child should go to school hungry in Canada, its commitment and desire to build a sustainable foundation is the driving force that brings significant benefit to children in need. The Grocery Foundation's initiatives span its Make Happy Tummies (TM), formerly Toonies for Tummies (TM) fundraising platform supported by shoppers, retailers and sponsors and a Voucher Program (Ontario only) which helps approved student nutrition programs access healthy foods at significant savings with the support of participating grocery stores and partnering food, beverage and consumer goods companies. Through its exceptional Night to Nurture Gala, the industry event of the year, The Grocery Foundation also helps fundraise for mental health supports for children and youth in Canada in addition to grants that stretch its impact nourishing the growing number of hungry children in and out of the school year.

Reporting to the Board Chair and accountable to a dynamic Board of Directors comprised of CEOs and senior executive leaders within a community of grocery retail, food, beverage and consumer goods companies and manufacturers, the Grocery Foundation is seeking an exceptional Executive Director to lead and grow the Foundation. An inspiring and collaborative executive leader and a passionate ambassador for The Grocery Foundation, the incoming Executive Director brings a strategic mindset and 10-15+ years of outstanding executive leadership, relationship-building, marketing and communications, operations, financial, risk management and governance experience.

A credible, high-integrity leader with a meaningful connection to, and network within the Canadian Grocery Industry, the incoming Executive Director will have the proven ability to continue to grow successful brands, programs and events. Quickly able to engage, inspire and build trust with its Board, leadership team and multiple stakeholders and with extensive financial and operational experience in the private and/or not-for-profit sector, the Executive Director will set The Grocery Foundation’s strategic path and successfully identify and execute new and exciting opportunities for its continued growth.

While furthering sponsorship and support for the highly successful national Make Happy Tummies (TM) campaign and Night to Nurture Gala, the Executive Director will build and develop new, diversified and differentiated revenue streams for The Grocery Foundation including online donations and restaurant channel expansion, enabling mission impact and reach. Experience developing corporate partnerships, extensive fundraising and oversight into the planning and execution of large-scale events as well as experience with not-for-profit boards are all assets. This is an outstanding leadership opportunity for a dynamic and inclusive executive who will invite participation, attract support and motivate key stakeholders to advance The Grocery Foundation’s mission of getting food to hungry children and ensure its growth and continued success, now and for the many years ahead.
