THE OPPORTUNITY

La-kwa sa muqw Forestry, a limited partnership between Western Forest Products and member First Nations of the Nanwakolas Council, is hiring for a TFL Forester at our La-kwa sa muqw Forest Operation in Campbell River, BC.

What You’ll Do: The TFL Forester plays a critical role in achieving operational and corporate goals, including standardizing and coordinating WFP’s Forest Strategy in Stewardship, Silviculture, and Sustainable Forest Management; developing strategic planning and certification programs; and overseeing the First Nation Information Sharing Process. You will manage, train, and coach silviculture and planning employees and contractors.

Work Environment: This role is based in person at our La-kwa sa muqw Forest Operation in Campbell River, BC.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead safety and environmental stewardship, ensuring compliance with safety and sustainability protocols
  • Develop and oversee plans, budgets, and forecasts supporting long-term timber supply, including annual harvest plans and silviculture spending
  • Manage and mentor Foresters, Planners, and contractors, fostering professional development
  • Maintain relationships with First Nations, government agencies, and interest groups to facilitate access to fibre
  • Oversee First Nations Information Sharing to ensure compliance and continuity
  • Manage Silviculture Program and ensure compliance with legislated obligations and land value preservation
  • Ensure alignment with environmental policies and certifications (EMS, CSA, SFI)
  • Support planning and assessments for cutblock development and related projects
  • Collaborate with First Nation partners on Forest Landscape and Operations Plans

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • 10+ years in Forestry Planning roles
  • Post-secondary degree in Forestry or Natural Resource Management
  • Current RPF accreditation with BC Forest Professionals
  • Experience in coastal forestry preferred

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Forest Management and Land Use Planning
  • Knowledge of forestry obligations, legislation, and practices
  • Ability to manage operational plans and forestry permits
  • Excellent communication and team skills, confident public speaker
  • Financial and business acumen
  • Knowledge of road construction and harvesting practices, safety focus
  • Experience with forestry software and technologies (asset)
