Job Overview :

We are seeking a skilled Test Technologist to join a collaborative R&D team responsible for validating embedded software for protection relays and networking equipment. This role will work closely with hardware designers, systems engineers, software developers, and project managers to support the verification and validation (V&V) process. The focus is on delivering reliable, high-quality solutions with a “customer-first” perspective through robust testing methodologies.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Design and execute embedded software (firmware) tests, contributing to overall software product quality.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, test strategies, and test cases for protection relay and networking products.
  • Perform functional, regression, and application-level testing based on customer use cases.
  • Collaborate across teams to identify, log, and track software defects using tools like Jira.
  • Apply standard quality assurance (QA) methodologies, continuously improving testing processes and metrics.
  • Analyze and diagnose system logs, crashes, and network issues.
  • Support test automation and configuration of lab equipment where necessary.
  • Work with communication protocols and network infrastructure relevant to power systems applications.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • At least 1 year of experience in a software or system testing role.
  • Hands-on experience with test case development, execution, and defect management.
  • Strong understanding of QA processes, software testing methodologies, and tools.
  • Experience in power systems, particularly within electrical substations.
  • Proficient in defect tracking systems and test management tools.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Protection Relay Testing experience is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with industry protocols including IEC 61850 (GOOSE, SV 9-2LE, 61869-9), DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 60870-5-103.
  • Knowledge of VLANs, network switches, routers, and general networking principles.
  • Prior experience testing embedded systems, relays, or industrial automation devices.
  • Exposure to test automation or scripting environments is an asset.
  • Soft Skills :

  • Strong team player with excellent collaboration skills.
  • Effective communicator with clear, concise writing and speaking abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong critical thinking capabilities.
