Job description

Want to help build the lab that proves what next-generation energy storage can do? At Moment Energy, we’re looking for a Lab Test Technician - Battery Cell Testing to join our team to help run the testing operation behind our battery energy storage systems.

If you’ve seen some of the exciting news about Moment Energy recently, you’ll know this is a fantastic time to join us. While the industry scraps millions of batteries with years of useful life remaining, we’re repurposing large-format batteries into advanced energy storage systems that deliver real-world impact.

This role will be central to getting our growing battery cell testing lab running efficiently. You’ll oversee roughly 100 ongoing tests, coordinate testing plans, maintain equipment, improve processes, and make sure everything operates safely and reliably.

What you’ll be doing
  • Managing the daily execution of 100+ battery cell tests, ensuring they run safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Coordinating months-long testing plans and carrying out regular check-ins.
  • Creating, managing, and improving battery test protocols.
  • Writing clear standard operating procedures for lab and testing activities.
  • Designing and building test harnesses, fixtures, and supporting equipment.
  • Planning and supporting the expansion of cell testing equipment and lab capabilities.
  • Driving improvements in testing throughput, reliability, and overall lab efficiency.
  • Performing regular maintenance on battery testing systems and monitoring lab electricity usage.
  • Ensuring every test has the correct safety limits and controls in place.
  • Managing hazards associated with battery testing, including high voltage, chemical exposure, thermal runaway, and fire risk.
  • Supporting inspections, audits, facility operations, and workplace health and safety programs.
  • Leading root-cause investigations into testing anomalies and equipment failures.
  • Working closely with Battery Engineering and R&D teams to make the most effective use of every lab asset.
What we’re looking for
  • 5+ years of experience in test, laboratory, or operations management.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Experience writing and maintaining SOPs and test protocols.
  • Hands-on experience in mechanical and electrical assembly or manufacturing environments.
  • Confidence with assembly, wiring, crimping, and power hand tools.
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution systems and manufacturing equipment.
  • A willingness to learn about battery testing, including degradation cycling, calendar life, EIS, and abuse testing.
  • Experience working in manufacturing, cleantech, or an energy startup.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs with or without lifting aids and stand for extended periods.
Nice to have
  • Experience handling and testing batteries.
  • Familiarity with testing equipment such as Arbin, Neware, Biologic, Sinexcel, or Novonix.
  • Experience with battery degradation, calendar life, EIS, or thermal, mechanical, and electrical abuse testing.
  • Experience supporting workplace health and safety programs.
  • Light data analysis skills or experience developing simple scripts and tools for reporting.

We’re looking for someone adaptable, organised, hands-on, and motivated by making things work better. You don’t need to meet every requirement to apply — if you’re excited by the opportunity and believe you can make a difference, we’d love to hear from you.

If you enjoy building efficient systems, solving problems at the root cause, and helping a fast-growing cleantech company get the most from every battery and every test, this could be the role for you.
