SUMMARY: Working within the Test & Quality Engineering team, the Test Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our electro-mechanical products. This position involves developing and implementing robust hardware and software test solutions, taking ownership of testing activities for assigned projects through the NPI process and into production, and contributing actively to process improvements and design feedback.
**Please note that this position is a 1-year fixed term contract**
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, develop, build, and debug automated and manual test fixtures and systems for PCBA and electro-mechanical assemblies for assigned projects.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize test scripts and software (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, C/C#) for test automation, control, and data acquisition.
- Plan, create, and execute comprehensive test plans and validation procedures for new and existing products based on specifications and requirements.
- Analyze test data thoroughly, perform root cause failure analysis for production issues and customer returns, and generate detailed test reports with actionable insights.
- Participate actively in design reviews, providing constructive feedback focused on Design for Testability (DFT) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM).
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure effective test implementation, troubleshoot issues, and support yield improvement activities.
- Identify test equipment needs for specific projects and contribute to the selection and evaluation process.
- Assist in managing test data collection and contribute to improving data analysis methods.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensure calibration schedules are met, and contribute to a well-organized test environment.
- May provide technical guidance and support to technicians or junior team members on specific tasks or projects.
SECONDARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform repair and troubleshooting of PCBA and/or electro-mechanical assemblies as needed.
- Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with cross-functional teams.
- Stay current with relevant testing technologies, tools, and industry best practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Test & Quality Engineering team.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 4+ years of relevant experience in developing test solutions (hardware and software) for electronics, preferably in a manufacturing or NPI environment.
- Proven experience selecting, utilizing, and automating standard electronics test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, logic analyzers, etc.)
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Experience with one or more programming/scripting languages commonly used in test automation (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, C, C#).
- Experience developing test plans and executing verification/validation tests for products involving hardware and software interaction.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills applied to complex issues.
- Organized, methodical, and detail-oriented approach to technical work.
- Ability to work independently on assigned projects and manage tasks effectively.
- Good teamwork and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good technical documentation skills (e.g., test procedures, reports, flow charts, block diagrams).
- Knowledge of communication interfaces (e.g., USB, I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet).
- Understanding of Design for Testability (DFT) and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles is an asset.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git) for managing test software/scripts is an asset.
- Knowledge of RF test equipment (e.g., Spectrum Analyzers) is an asset.
- Knowledge of wireless protocols (e.g., LoRaWAN, Bluetooth, cellular, NB-IoT) is an asset.
- Knowledge of soldering techniques is an asset.
