Job summary

Ultra Maritime in Dartmouth, Canada, seeks a test engineer to design, develop, and maintain automated test equipment and software, primarily using LabVIEW and OrCad. You will support product verification, troubleshoot issues, and work across design, development, and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and maintaining test automation using National Instruments LabVIEW.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test equipment
  • Develop and maintain automated test software using National Instruments LabVIEW and related tools
  • Design and develop electronic drawings, using such programs as OrCad.
  • Create detailed test plans, procedures, and methodologies to verify product specifications.
  • Review test specifications for completeness and accuracy.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to test equipment, software, and test methodologies.
  • Analyze test data and production yields to identify trends, root causes of failures, and areas for improvement.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to existing test equipment and processes to increase efficiency, accuracy, and throughput.
  • Collaborate with design, development, and manufacturing teams to ensure testability and quality throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Participate in product design reviews and provide input on “Design for Test” and “Design for Manufacturing”.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, military specifications, and quality assurance procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test equipment

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and system specifications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing and maintaining test automation using National Instruments LabVIEW.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment across multiple engineering and tooling disciplines.
  • Must be able to gain the appropriate Canadian government security clearance and satisfy all requirements to be able to work on Canadian Controlled Goods projects.
Desired
  • Strong programming skills in Python for test development and automation.
  • Experience with various test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power supplies, and data acquisition systems.
  • Proven experience in a test engineering role, preferably within the defense or aerospace industry.
  • Experience working in a high-volume production environment.
  • Experience with statistical tools for data analysis and visualization.

Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and 0+ years of related experience. Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
