The position reports to the Director, Family Wellness, and is responsible for developing and implementing community-based supports that empower individuals and agencies to advocate for women’s safety, gender equity, and support Safety Initiatives through advocacy, awareness, training, and program development. Existing programs include Family Safety Shelters, Safe Homes, Shelter Training Initiatives, and Community Collaboration for Women’s Safety Initiatives. Services focus on prevention, reduction, and stopping the cycle of violence, ensuring Nunavummiut have access to safe resources efficiently and effectively. Programs developed within the Family Safety Initiatives aim to broaden the scope of services to address the root causes of family safety concerns.
The Manager will provide operational support to develop solutions that enhance family safety across the Territory. The work will focus on guiding and equipping the Family Safety Initiatives team to increase effectiveness and improve wellness services provided in Nunavut. Investing in these areas will enable the Department and partners to respond swiftly and responsibly to family safety concerns at individual, family, and community levels, fostering safe, well-resourced, and accessible services.
The ideal candidate will hold a recognized undergraduate degree in social sciences or a related field, with at least one year of supervisory experience. Additionally, three years of management experience—including project or program management, financial and budget administration, and human resource management—is required, along with three years of practical experience in policy development, particularly in planning social programs.
The official languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English, and French. Applicants may submit their resumes in any of these languages. Fluency in more than one official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also valuable assets.
