Territorial Lead, Mental Health and Community Wellness

Department: Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority

The Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority (NTHSSA) offers challenging and exciting careers in health and social services delivery and administration in Canada’s North. Job Information

Located in Yellowknife, the Territorial Lead, Mental Health and Community Wellness (Territorial Lead) will report to the Territorial Manager, Mental Health and Community Wellness (Manager), and will be called upon to address a variety of issues on a daily basis. These can range from addressing client's complaints, providing briefing notes to the Director, Mental Health and Community Wellness (Director), providing advice and direction to other Territorial Leads, Territorial Specialists, and Regional Managers, and representing the NTHSSA in meetings, or conferences.

This position will help guide practice based on the shared vision of the NTHSSA and the incumbent will foster and sustain academic partnerships to advance professional practices and develop the work force as a territorial lead. The Territorial Lead will role model vigilance in ensuring the highest of quality care and services.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

A Baccalaureate degree in a recognized psychology, mental health and/or addiction discipline or a health-related field such as nursing or social work, and a minimum of five (5) years of work-related experience in Mental Health and Addiction Services.

Must be registered with the appropriate professional designation (e.g. CANN or Social Work) or be eligible for registration.

  • Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology
  • Bachelor's in Addiction Studies or Substance Use Counseling
  • Bachelor's in Psychiatric Nursing
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) ¿ with mental health/psychiatric focus
  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)
  • Bachelor's in Occupational Therapy (if with mental health/addictions experience)
  • Bachelor of Public Health or Health Sciences ¿ with a concentration or coursework in mental health/addictions

Other Accepted Degrees (on a case-by-case basis)

  • Bachelor's in Indigenous Studies, Child and Youth Care if supplemented with strong experience in mental health/addictions
  • Clinical or community-based roles in:
  • Mental health centers
  • Crisis intervention services
  • Inpatient or outpatient psychiatry
  • Harm reduction or outreach programs
