Job summary

Steinbachonline in Manitoba seeks a TERM Youth Support Worker to assist students at HSD Schools. The position is 6 hours per day with a wage of CAD 30.74 per hour, starting ASAP, open until filled.

You will support one or two students, implement educational programming, provide guidance and supervision in school, and collaborate with teaching staff. A Child and Youth Care Diploma is required; two years’ experience with at‑risk youth is preferred; a valid driver’s license and vehicle are required.

Qualifications

• Child and Youth Care Diploma or equivalent education.
• Minimum two years’ experience with adolescents facing emotional or mental health challenges.
• Experience with children with autism preferred.
• Experience with at‑risk youth and youth in the care of child welfare agencies.
• Strong understanding of programming in a school environment.
• Strong behaviour management and effective communication skills.
• Willingness to drive students if needed and ability to maintain discretion with sensitive information.
• Must have a current Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.

Responsibilities

Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:

• To support one or two students in classrooms and flexible programs at HSD Schools
• To implement and supervise the educational programming of student(s)
• To provide guidance, mentoring, and support in school
• To work cooperatively under the supervision of the program teaching staff
• To assist, if needed, driving students to and from school with personal vehicle

Qualifications:

• Child and Youth Care Diploma; an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience

may be considered

• Minimum two years’ experience working with adolescents who struggle with emotional,

behavioural difficulties, or mental health challenges is preferred

• Preferably experience and knowledge working with children with autism is preferred
• Relevant experience working with at‑risk youth and youth in the care of child welfare agencies
• Strong understanding of programming in a school environment
• Competency in positive student behaviour management
• Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary collaborative team
• Working Effectively with Violent and Aggressive States (WEVAS) and/or Non-Violent Crisis
  Intervention (NVCI) training would be an asset
• Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with children/youth
• Strong judgement and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive

situations with tact and diplomacy

• Ability, emotional and physical stamina to work with students with complex, emotional, and
