Detailed Job Description

PURPOSE

To facilitate and coordinate human resources activity in the areas of recruitment & selection and support the implementation of HR change initiatives, thereby ensuring that the needs of the company are kept current.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The incumbent is directly accountable to the Principal Advisor, Human Resources.

Responsibilities & Performance Standards

  • Working within legislative requirements and accepted time lines, complete the full recruitment & selection cycle including, interviewing, advertising, selection, testing, reference checking, delivery of the on-boarding and orientation program.
  • Develop, implement and monitor recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Creating and managing job descriptions.
  • Organizing and attending job fairs.
  • Coordinate apprentice training program, as well as assisting employees who challenge trade qualifying examinations.
  • Remain current with human resources, employment and workforce development programs through self-development initiatives.
  • Organizing and conducting New Hire Orientation.
  • Attend and complete union/management meeting minutes.
  • Assist Principal Advisor with labour relations.
  • Assist with policy development and updating.
  • Updating and distributing employee handbook.
  • Assist with company functions.

Qualifications

Education

Post-secondary education/coursework in Human Resources Management or General Studies.

A professional designation such as CHRP or RPR is an asset.

Experience

  • One to three years’ experience in the Human Resources field with direct experience in recruitment and selection.
  • 1 – 2 years’ experience in a mining or industrial environment is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Well developed intuitive & interpersonal skills, problem solving abilities, strong sense of urgency and you ability to build relationships will be essential.
  • Well developed computer skills, MS Office.
  • Ability to facilitate presentations in staff training and orientation
  • Must have demonstrated an excellent safety attitude, performance and attendance record.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems in a logical manner
  • Able to work under pressure and remain calm in stressful circumstances
  • Ability to manage time and prioritize effectively
  • Effective organizational and communication skills
  • Effective creative thinking skills
  • Well developed computer skills including the use of presentation software
  • Knowledge of employment standards and labour relations legislation

Physical Requirements

The incumbent needs to be able to:

  • handle loads up to 20 kg. in weight
  • operate a vehicle requiring a Class 5 license
  • sit for over 60 consecutive minutes
  • concentrate for over 60 consecutive minutes
