The University of British Columbia Okanagan School of Nursing seeks a term clinical instructor to support NRSG_O 339: Nursing Practice in Child Health at Kelowna General Hospital and the UBC Okanagan simulation lab, from Oct 19 to Dec 9, 2026.

You will supervise student groups, facilitate labs, and provide formative and summative feedback throughout 6-week rotations, coordinating with the Team Leader and Associate Director as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications for Research Nurse: RN with BCCNP plus three years of nursing and administrative experience.
  • Clinical Associate: Undergraduate degree in Nursing and RN with BCCNP, plus at least two years of clinical experience.
  • Nurse Practitioner Clinical Associate: Postgraduate degree in Nursing and RN with BCCNP, plus two years in primary care NP practice or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in orientation and plan meetings before the contract start date.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, and take notes on a rotating basis.
  • Provide mentoring to new practice teachers and feedback to students during the term.
  • Grade and provide feedback on practice-related written assignments and documentation.
  • Maintain documentation and participate in labs and simulation activities as scheduled.
  • Submit mileage and parking reimbursement claims monthly.

Clinical assistants support groups of 8 students in 6-week clinical rotations on KGH 4South pediatric unit and in simulation learning experiences in the UBC Okanagan simulation laboratory. Orientation to clinical teaching and simulation facilitation will be provided.Applications will consist of:A letter of applicationAn up-to-date resume outlining nursing clinical practice and any teaching experienceOrganizational StatusThe UBC Bachelor of Science in Nursing prepares graduates to practice nursing within a variety of contexts and with diverse client populations. Seek guidance regarding student performance concerns only from the Team Leader or the Assistant Director and collaborate with them to provide the student with constructive feedback and options for progress in the program.Be willing to give negative feedback to the student if indicated. Inappropriate judgment or unwillingness to provide constructive feedback may harm the student’s progress in the program and/or result in unsafe practice in subsequent practice placements.Supervision ReceivedInitially, mentorship will be provided by an experienced faculty member. The Team Leader is available for consultation at any time.
