The Harquail School of Earth Sciences at Laurentian University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sedimentary Geology and related disciplines, starting preferably on January 1st, 2025.
We seek an innovative individual with excellent teaching and research skills to complement our current expertise and contribute to our programs focused on ore deposits. Responsibilities include teaching a wide range of sedimentary geology courses at undergraduate and graduate levels, with a focus on clastic, carbonate, or chemical sedimentary rocks, and the ability to teach related subdisciplines. Development of a vigorous, externally funded research program, including supervision of BSc, MSc, and PhD students, is expected.

The successful candidate will actively engage in teaching and research, and contribute through service to the School, Faculty, University, and community. Passive bilingualism (French/English) is required for tenure, with English as the language of instruction.
The Harquail School of Earth Sciences hosts the Mineral Exploration Research Center, leading the Metal Earth Project, Canada's largest mineral exploration research initiative. Laurentian University, known as Canada's Mining University, is also home to the Goodman School of Mines.
The candidate will have access to advanced analytical facilities, including LA-ICP-MS, μXRF, fluid inclusion labs, X-ray diffractometers, SEM-EDS, Raman microscopes, and sample prep facilities. Additional resources are available at the Perdue Central Analytical Facility and Ontario Geological Survey laboratories on campus.
Located on Atikameksheng Anishnawbek territory in Sudbury, Ontario, Laurentian University serves over 8,000 students and is one of Ontario's two bilingual universities, offering education in English and French, with a focus on Indigenous perspectives. The campus is surrounded by lakes, conservation lands, and trails, situated centrally in Greater Sudbury, with strong ties to Science North, SNOLAB, Health Sciences North, and other institutions.
