Indigenous Assistant Professor (History & Philosophy of Indigenous Education)

Position Details

We seek an Indigenous teacher-scholar from Turtle Island with expertise in Indigenous history and philosophy of education to enhance our offerings related to reconciliation, decolonization, equity, diversity, and inclusion. Expertise in interdisciplinarity, Indigenous research methodologies and languages, place-based, and sustainability education would be an asset.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students in formal or community education settings, employing experiential pedagogies. A social justice stance based on reconciliation, Indigenous theories and practices, and anti-racist/anti-oppressive practices is central to this role. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Indigenous education theories, perspectives, practices, history, philosophy, and community engagement. All faculty are expected to conduct research, scholarly, and artistic work, and contribute to collegial processes within the College and University.

Applicants should have completed, or be near completion of, a doctoral degree in an appropriate specialization. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to social justice and Indigenous pedagogies, possess relevant post-secondary teaching experience (K-12 experience is an asset), have a strong research agenda with potential for external funding, and align with Indigenous history and philosophy of education, Indigenous knowledge systems, and reconciliation initiatives. Ability to work across disciplines and collaboratively with Indigenous communities, incorporating Indigenous worldviews, is essential.

The Department of Educational Foundations plays a vital role in developing pre-service and in-service teachers, including those serving First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities. We actively pursue reconciliation, equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization through programming and research excellence. Our programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of Indigenous communities and connect faculty and students to local, national, and international contexts, respecting Canada's traditions and standards.

Additional Details

Salary for this position ranges from $110,489 to $131,909. The role includes a comprehensive benefits package, covering health, dental, vision, pension, life insurance, disability, sick leave, travel insurance, and wellness programs.
