Job summary

Nutrien is hiring for a lab-focused role in Saskatoon, Canada. You will contribute to doubled haploid projects, assist with embryo culture, tissue culture, and molecular analyses, and ensure strict data tracking and safety standards.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, document protocol adjustments, and support growth facilities, greenhouse, and field activities as needed. A biology or agriculture background with strong data skills is essential.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to microspore and doubled haploid project workflows (embryogenesis, plating, transfers, and lab analyses).
• Document recalcitrant genotypes and record protocol adjustments.
• Coordinate marker screening with molecular team.
• Adhere to QA processes and SOPs to ensure gene purity.
• Label and manage donor plants, tissues, and plantlets.
• Collect data per established procedures and summarize results.
• Support lab operations: media prep, equipment upkeep, and housekeeping.
• Assist with greenhouse, field, pathology, and molecular lab activities as needed.
• Support Growth Facilities with harvesting and sample collection.
• Maintain plant care, labeling, and clean workspaces.
• Prepare plant samples for DNA extraction in molecular work.

What You'll Do

• Contribute to the timely completion of doubled haploid projects through microspore extractions, embryo plating, subculture/plantlet transfers, ploidy analysis, and doubled haploid plantlet planting
• Document recalcitrant genotypes and record any adjustments in the protocol used to achieve embryogenesis
• Coordinate marker screening of doubled haploid plantlets with the molecular team
• Adhere to quality assurance processes and standard operating procedures to ensure the gene purity of all doubled haploid derived genotypes
• Accurately label and select donor plants, tissue culture material, and doubled haploid plantlets
• Complete data collection according to established procedures
• Assist with experiments and maintain, organize, and summarize experimental results
• Actively contribute to team activities such as media preparation, equipment maintenance, lab housekeeping, and protocol improvement efforts
• As requested, provide support in greenhouse, field, pathology, and molecular lab work activities
• Support Growth Facilities activities, including harvesting plant material and collecting samples according to established procedures
• Assist with routine plant maintenance, including watering, transplanting, labeling, monitoring plant health, and maintaining clean work areas
• Provide molecular laboratory support by preparing plant samples and assisting with DNA extraction activities
• Model our core value of safety by always utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safety protocols
• Embrace a safety mindset, committing to safe work practices through Key Daily Actions
• Demonstrate willingness and enthusiasm to complete additional tasks to meet business objectives

What You'll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Biology, or related field is required. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education requirements
