Temporary Specialist, Health and Safety

Association of Business Professionals (Non-Union Employee Group)

Temporary Contract - Full time Position 1.0 FTE

Effective June 2, 2025 until October 16, 2026

Salary Rate: Group 5 - $79,869

Reporting to the Manager, Occupational Health and Safety, the Temporary Specialist, Health and Safety is an effective member of the People and Culture Team, providing support in the area of Occupational Health & Safety. The emphasis of the work will involve maintainingexcellent records, timely and accurate claims reporting and supporting staff, management, and Union Partners with regards to WSIB and Occupational Health & Safety matters ensuring the protection of personal information and confidentiality.

The position is primarily located at the Catholic Education Centre, with occasional travel to LDCSB school sites. Opportunity for remote work is limited given the responsibilities of the role. This position is covering an extended parental leave.

Qualifications and Skills required:

  • Relevant post-secondary education in the areas of Occupational Health & Safety and/or Human Resources.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related role within a unionized environment.
  • JHSC certified considered an asset.
  • Ability to analyze and report on incident trends to apply proactive measures.
  • Excellent understanding of WSIB Claims Management and OH&S legislation, regulations, investigations, and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Board policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Proficient in the use and reporting of data management software and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in reviewing workplace incidents and completing follow-ups/investigations as needed.
  • Experience in workplace inspections and making proper recommendations as necessary in compliance with the OHS Act including addition of PPE etc.
  • Experience using Parklane and HRIS systems (such as Smart Find Express, Crystal Reports) is an asset.
  • Proven experience taking comprehensive meeting minutes.
  • Experience building relationships outside work with community partners i.e. police, fire, MLITSD Inspectors, Health Inspectors, etc.
  • Demonstrated professional ethic and sensitivity to the confidential nature of the position.
  • A strong commitment to service and attention to detail and reporting of time-sensitive matters.
  • Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in arranging and at times delivering necessary safety training as required.
  • Assistance with other projects/tasks as directed.
  • Must have a valid Ontario drivers License (full "G" License)
