Job summary

The City of Saskatoon is seeking an Operator to operate sewer maintenance equipment including hydro-excavation and sewer cleaner trucks. You will train staff, perform safety checks, and maintain records of work performed on sewer and water systems.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, relevant operator certifications at Levels 2/3, heavy equipment training, and a Saskatchewan driver’s licence with a clean SGI record. Shift work is involved and rates are posted.

Qualifications

• Secondary (high) school diploma or equivalency certificate.
• Three years’ experience related to water or sewer systems, including one year repairing, inspecting and cleaning sewer collection systems.
• Possession of Level 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board.
• Possession of Level 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be an asset.
• Level 3 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification from the Saskatchewan Operator Certification Board would be an asset.
• Successful completion of the core training module for heavy equipment operation.
• Possession of a Saskatchewan Class 1A or 3AG Driver's Licence.
• Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
• Must comply with all safety related requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operates hydro-excavation equipment, sewer cleaner truck and manhole vacuum in sewer maintenance jobs.
• Operates sewer cleaning machines and related equipment.
• Directs and trains staff in operating Sewer Cleaner Truck and manhole vacuum.
• Performs routine safety checks and servicing of equipment.
• Transports machine, equipment and crew trailers to work sites.
• Inspects and cleans manholes, chambers, sewer mains.
• Operates pumps and miscellaneous equipment as required.
• Installs road warning signs and barricades per standards.
• Responds to public and contractor inquiries.
• Performs repairs to sewer and water equipment.
• Maintains accurate records of work performed.
• Complies with safety regulations including confined space entry.
• Operates frontend loader, skidsteer and water truck.
• Participates in operator certification training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
