Job summary

The City of Regina is seeking a Casual Labourer in the Sewer & Drainage Operations branch. Under supervision, you will assist in a variety of duties including maintenance, equipment operation, and field support for domestic and storm sewers.

Typical duties include general labour, handling heavy materials, and assisting with inspections and lift station operations. A Grade 12 or GED and a valid driver’s license are required, with experience operating equipment and working in varied weather

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or GED equivalency is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools is expected.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license is required (1A an asset).
  • Experience operating large and small equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labour in all weather.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general labour duties and maintenance in the Sewer & Drainage Operations branch.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles assigned to the area.
  • Load and unload heavy material and equipment.
  • Conduct cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Support inspections, investigations, and compliance instructions.
  • Assist Field Operations in sewer cleaning and maintenance (domestic and storm).
  • Support Lift Station Operations in maintenance and operations.

Position Summary

The City of Regina is seeking applications for the position of Casual Labourerin the Sewer & Drainage Operations branch. Under general supervision, the employees in this position will be required to assist in a variety of duties.

Typical duties include:

  • Perform general labourer duties involving maintenance activities in the branch.
  • Operate equipment and vehicles assigned to the area.
  • Load and unload heavy material and equipment.
  • Cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Support Source Control inspections, investigations, and compliance instructing
  • Support Field Operations in both domestic and storm sewer cleaning and maintenance activities.
  • Support Lift Station Operations in maintenance and operations of our domestic and storm lift stations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities are obtained through the completion of Grade 12 or General Education Development (GED) equivalency.
  • Intermediatecomputer skills which would include familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license (Valid Class 1A driver's License would be an asset).
  • Experience operating large and small equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labour over sustainedperiods in all types of weather conditions.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish good interpersonal skills with fellow workers and citizens is a must.
  • Ability to work with equipment and systems.
  • Ability to enter and work within confined spaces.
  • Ability to work in contact with raw or partially treated wastewater in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions.
  • Knowledge of household plumbing and the city’s domestic/storm sewer systems would be an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • These positions may be required to work non-standard hours, overtime, and weekends.

  • Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Regina's Criminal Record Check Policy.
  • Proof of education is required.
  • Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies, skills, and knowledge.
