Job summary

The Good Spirit School Division 204 is seeking a Temporary Part-Time School Counsellor based at Kamsack Comprehensive Institute in Kamsack, SK. The role supports students with intensive needs, collaborating with teachers, parents, and the broader school community to promote student success.

This 0.5 FTE (18.75 hours/week) position is out-of-scope and is compensated according to the current board Out-Of-Scope Salary Grid, with benefits including health/dental coverage and professional development

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Services, such as Social Work or Psychology.
  • 3–5 years related work experience.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently and with others.

Responsibilities

  • Develop consistent, research-based practices to support student learning and system improvement.
  • Provide direct counselling services to students and participate in planning for unmet needs.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and consultation to optimize student functioning in school, home, and community.
  • Provide written reports and share recommendations with parents and school division through team meetings.
  • Keep electronic records of services in the school division data system.
  • Provide workshops and conduct class presentations on topics such as anti-bullying and social skills.
  • Apply ethical standards of professional practice and observe relevant laws and policies.
  • Conduct home visitations when necessary and appropriate.

The Good Spirit School Division Invites applications for Temporary Part-Time School Counsellor

Good Spirit Education Complex - Based out of Kamsack Comprehensive Institute in Kamsack, SK.

The School Counsellor is a specialist who provides support for students with intensive needs. These personnel consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents and other personnel or agencies to support student success at school. Furthermore, the School Counsellor acts as a liaison between the school, home, community and other agencies to help students function effectively and achieve their fullest potential.

Assignment/Contract

0.5 FTE (18.75 hours per week) - Temporary- Out-of-Scope

In accordance with the current board approved Out-Of-Scope Salary Grid

Assignment And Term
  • This position is temporary 0.5 FTE. Hours of work per day are based on the needs of the school up to a maximum of 7.5 hours. This position is based out of Kamsack Comprehensive Institute.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in a field of research related to Human Services, such as Social Work or Psychology.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years related work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and follow direction.
  • Must work well with others and independently.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
The successful candidate will collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary student services team to:
  • Develop consistent, research-based practices that strive to support student learning and system improvement within a collaborative culture.
  • Provide direct counselling services to students and participate in the identification and planning process with regard to unmet needs of children and youth in the school.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and consultation regarding goals and activities to optimize the ability of students to function in their educational, home, and community environments.
  • Provide written reports regarding student assessment and recommendations and share them with parents and school division personnel through team meetings.
In Addition, The Successful Candidate Will
  • Keep an electronic record of services provided to students using a school division data system.
  • Provide workshops and conduct class presentations and prevention programs on topics such as anti-bullying, abuse, social skills, etc.
  • Apply ethical standards of professional practice in the delivery of school counseling services, observing relevant laws and policies that govern practice.
  • Conduct home visitations when deemed necessary and appropriate.
Salary And Benefits

The School Division offers a competitive compensation package. The School Counsellor shall receive a salary of Class lll, lV or V on the STF grid from Step 1 to Step 8 depending on qualifications, education, and experience. Further benefits include a comprehensive health and dental benefit plan, opportunity to attend professional development seminars and travel compensation.

Applicants not currently working for GSSD will be required to submit a recent (within the last six months) criminal record and vulnerable sector check acceptable to the Board of Education prior to offer of employment.
