Position Overview

The Temporary Housing for All Advisor will play a leadership role in developing, executing, and evaluating programs and services that support the City’s efforts to build a strong, resilient, and inclusive community. In the last two years, Saint John has experienced a rapid growth in the number of unhoused people living in sheltered and unsheltered locations, sparking program innovations, new commitments in funding and resources, and fostering new collaborations between government levels and the community. Reporting to the Manager, Community Development, the Advisor will oversee programs supporting the City of Saint John’s Homelessness Strategy. This role requires strategic planning, community partnership, and resource advocacy to support the homeless population. Responsibilities include working with government, partners, and community sectors to implement the Community Encampment Response Plan (CERP) and support residents and neighborhood strategies through partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

• Implementation of the Homelessness Strategy: Provide safe community spaces, support access to shelter, create policies adhering to Human Rights principles, develop emergency shelters, and promote prevention and housing supports.
• Community Engagement: Build relationships with government and community stakeholders, align policies, advocate for inclusion, and report on efforts and outcomes.
• Program Development: Design and lead initiatives for homeless support, ensuring services are accessible and respectful, and facilitate transitions to stable housing.

Qualifications

• Degree in community development, public administration, or related field; graduate degree an asset.
• Minimum 4 years experience in community development, poverty reduction, or homelessness initiatives.
• Knowledge of local government, Saint John’s economy, and regional trends.
• Experience in partnership initiatives, proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong communication skills.
• Flexible hours, including evenings/weekends, and travel may be required.
• Lived experience and diverse perspectives are valued.
