Qualifications

  • Skills in Central Venous Line Care.
  • Proven attendance record.
  • Must recertify DeSouza Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Course every two years.
  • Oncology Certification preferred.
  • Current B.L.S.
  • Certification in Intravenous Therapy.
  • Skills in Central Venous Line Care.
  • Demonstration of strong nursing practice, skill and judgement.
  • Must possess good assessment skills and be capable of working independently.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and leadership skills.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and compassion.

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe, comprehensive nursing care to Oncology patients receiving systemic therapy.
  • Completes and documents health assessments throughout the treatment.
  • Monitors treatment-related symptoms and educates patients and families.
  • Monitors for, identifies, and responds to treatment‑related symptoms, side effects, and adverse events in collaboration with the interprofessional team
  • Provides patient and family education to support informed decision‑making, self‑management, and continuity of care
  • Promotes a multidisciplinary, patient‑centred approach and communicates effectively with internal teams and regional/community partners
  • Supports patient safety through medication order verification, independent double checks, and safe handling of hazardous drugs (PPE, spill management, disposal)
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, workload/statistics reporting, and orientation/preceptorship support as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Job description

The Dryden Regional Health Centre is seeking to fill the following position with highly motivated, team‑oriented professional:

Temporary Full‑Time Registered Nurse - Oncology Department

Reporting to the Director- Pharmacy, Oncology & Professional Practice, the Oncology Registered Nurse plays a key role in the assessment, treatment, and follow‑up care of patients receiving systemic therapy for cancer. The successful candidate will support safe, evidence‑based, compassionate care throughout the treatment trajectory, while contributing to a collaborative and patient‑centered Oncology program.

Responsibilities
  • Provides safe, comprehensive nursing care to Oncology patients receiving systemic therapy, including ongoing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care
  • Completes and documents health assessments at the onset of systemic therapy and throughout the treatment trajectory
  • Administers chemotherapy/biotherapy and supportive treatments in accordance with hospital policies and standards (DeSouza trained RN required)
  • Monitors for, identifies, and responds to treatment‑related symptoms, side effects, and adverse events in collaboration with the interprofessional team
  • Provides patient and family education to support informed decision‑making, self‑management, and continuity of care
  • Promotes a multidisciplinary, patient‑centred approach and communicates effectively with internal teams and regional/community partners
  • Supports patient safety through medication order verification, independent double checks, and safe handling of hazardous drugs (PPE, spill management, disposal)
  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives, workload/statistics reporting, and orientation/preceptorship support as required

This is a Monday‑Friday, temporary full‑time unionised position through December 2027. Compensation will be as per ONA CBA.
