Job summary

Dryden Regional Health Centre is seeking a Permanent Full-Time Substance Use Disorders Nurse Practitioner to provide specialized, evidence-based care for individuals with substance use disorders, overdose, withdrawal, and comorbid mental health conditions. The NP will work across the Emergency Department, RAAM, outpatient services, and community settings to assess, treat, and coordinate care.

Qualifications

• Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as an RN(EC).
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
• Completion of a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program.
• Experience in primary care, acute care, and/or mental health and addictions (substance use experience preferred).
• Advanced health assessment, diagnostic, prescribing, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of addiction medicine, harm reduction principles, and evidence-based substance use treatment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Strong communication, counselling, and relationship-building skills.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management of patients within the NP scope of practice.
• Initiate and manage evidence-based treatment, including medication-assisted therapies and other interventions.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide health education, counselling, harm reduction strategies, and supportive interventions.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing, mental health professionals, and community partners to coordinate patient care.
• Support patients through transitions between Emergency Department, RAAM program, outpatient services and community supports.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives and program development.
• Provide consultation, mentorship, and clinical expertise to interdisciplinary team members.
• Participate in community outreach, education, and collaborative initiatives to enhance access to substance use services.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Dryden Regional Health Centre is seeking to fill the following Permanent Full-Time position with highly motivated, team-orientated professional:

Substance Use Disorders Nurse Practitioner

Reporting to the Director -Family Health Team & Mental Health and Addictions Services, the Substance Use Disorders Nurse Practitioner provides specialized, evidence-based care to individuals experiencing substance use disorders, overdose, withdrawal, and co-occurring mental health conditions. Working across the Emergency Department, Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine (RAAM) program, outpatient services, and community settings, the NP will provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and care coordination while supporting improved access to addiction medicine and reducing unnecessary Emergency Department utilization.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management of patients within the Nurse Practitioner scope of practice.
• Initiate and manage evidence-based treatment, including medication-assisted therapies and other therapeutic interventions.
• Order and interpret diagnostic testing and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Provide health education, counselling, harm reduction strategies, and supportive interventions.
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing, mental health professionals, and community partners to coordinate patient care and ensure continuity across services.
• Support patients through transitions between the Emergency Department, RAAM program, outpatient services, and community-based supports.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and participate in quality improvement initiatives, program development, and evaluation activities.
• Provide consultation, mentorship, and clinical expertise to members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in community outreach, education, and collaborative initiatives that enhance access to substance use services.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

• Current Certificate of Competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (RN(EC)).
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
• Completion of a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program.
• Experience in primary care, acute care, and/or mental health and addictions (substance use experience preferred).
• Advanced health assessment, diagnostic, prescribing, and clinical decision-making skills.
• Knowledge of addiction medicine, harm reduction principles, and evidence-based substance use treatment.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
• Strong communication, counselling, and relationship-building skills.
• Current CPR certification.
• Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
• Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred care.
