Job summary

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools is seeking an Educational Assistant to join a team serving Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Spirit River. You will support students, collaborate with the school planning team and teachers, and help with large-group activities and small-group or one-on-one instruction.

The ideal candidate will have an Educational Assistant certificate or diploma, comfort working with students with diverse needs, and good interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant certificate or diploma preferred.
• Must be willing to assist students with feeding, toileting and personal hygiene.
• Experience working with children with special needs in an organized setting is preferred.
• Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered

Job description

Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools covers a geographical area that includes the regional communities of Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Spirit River. We are a team of 600 staff who provide quality teaching and learning experiences for approximately 5400 students.

Position Overview

• Assist students and meet with the school planning team in following programs, strategies and materials identified/developed and introduced by the teacher, specialized teams and District leads
• Provide feedback to the supervisory Teacher on his/her observations of students
• Assist with large group activities and work with small groups or individual students

Ideal Candidate Qualities

• Able to establish rapport with students who present with physical, emotional and learning disabilities who come from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds
• Knowledge of behavior management and positive reinforcement and the ability to utilize behavior management techniques according to established guidelines
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills

Desired Qualifications

• Educational Assistant certificate or diploma preferred
• Must be willing to assist students with feeding, toileting and personal hygiene

Starting compensation will be as per the collective agreement is $22.26/hr with a generous benefit package included.
