A leading school district in British Columbia is seeking an Education Assistant to provide specialized support for students with identified special needs. The role involves collaboration with teachers and requires effective communication skills. Applicants must have relevant educational qualifications and be flexible in assignments. Training will be provided for specific needs.
This position is assigned to the school-based team to provide support for students. Working under the supervision of the Principal/Vice Principal and under the general direction of a teacher, the Education Assistant will work directly with students to assist with social, emotional, behavioural, physical, and academic needs. This position includes supervision of students in non-classroom times such as before school, recess, lunch, and after school. Food safe course completion would be an asset.
This position is due to a leave. LIF to be added to hours for the year.
All awarded applicants will be required to join the CUPE Local 748 Union. Note: A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check will be required from successful applicants, with a review every five (5) years.
Required Qualifications: College of the Rockies SPEDA Course; Selkirk College Classroom and Community Support Worker (CCSW) Program and/or equivalent college program or at least one year of college-level training in the Human Services field focusing on behaviour management and students with special needs. Demonstrated successful practicum completion is required.
