Under the supervision of the Worksite Supervisor, responsible for all caretaking aspects of the facility and grounds, within their respective worksite(s). Implements and follows guidelines within the Custodial Manual. The incumbent may be assigned to system-wide caretaking work where required.
Custodians typically work in school/office settings, and/or other assigned worksite/board facilities, and occasionally, outdoor settings. The custodial role requires moderate with occasional heavy physical effort. Physical daily demands include frequent, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and handling equipment. Occasional heavy effort may be required. Constant visual concentration is necessary. Constant handling and frequent gripping. Custodian may be required to work alone in their role.
Grade 12 education or equivalent, good communication skills, ability to perform duties of the position. Knowledge of commercial cleaning products, materials and applications as well as knowledge of cleaning procedures as they relate to public buildings. Must demonstrate an ability to follow oral and written instructions. This position will require a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) or a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC) at the employee’s expense.
