School District 72 operates throughout a large geographic area. Campbell River and Quadra Island schools and our school board office are located on the traditional territory of the Ligidax people. School District 72 also encompasses the traditional territory of the Klahoose (Cortes), K'ómoks (Sayward), and maku (Bute Inlet) First Nations.

School District 72 is looking for a temporary 1.0 FTE Speech & Language Pathologist to join our team of professionals in our Inclusive Education Department who strive to bring the district's learning beliefs to life.

The district serves over 5,600 students in 18 schools with a diverse range of programs that are progressive and responsive to the educational needs and interests of students.

The district respects and values the relationships with all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who reside in these territories.

About the Role

The successful candidate for this vacancy will:

  • Provide speech and language services to students in coordination with the learning support teams in assigned schools.
  • Identify and assess, through evaluation, those students suspected of having significant communicative impairment.
  • Identify and provide the appropriate interventions, continue to monitor through assessments, provide ongoing services and interventions in the educational environment, and work with families to support the development of speech and language skills in the home environment.
  • Initiate referrals to other district staff or community agencies to further support the development needs of students, when appropriate.

Bring your Expertise

  • Master's Degree in Speech & Language Pathology.
  • Must be registered with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC).
  • Experience in the provision of Speech & Language services in the public school system is an asset.

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Have knowledge of speech & language pathology theory, intervention strategies, and practices;
  • Have the ability to provide services to communicatively impaired students in a manner that recognizes and reflects a range of delivery service models;
  • Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills and are able to work effectively and professionally with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and other members of a learning support team;
  • Have the ability to work independently and identify priorities when working with multiple students in a number of schools;
  • Possess the ability to consult and collaborate while working with students, school-based teams, parents, and other relevant professionals.

The starting full-time salary for these teaching positions ranges from $60,015 to $109,520. Placement on a salary scale is subject to verification of experience and certification and will be done in accordance with the current collective agreement.
