School District 72 operates throughout a large geographic area. Campbell River and Quadra Island schools and our school board office are located on the traditional territory of the Liǧʷiɫdaxʷ people. School District 72 is looking for a temporary 1.0 FTE Inclusion Support Teacher to join our team of professionals at Inclusive Education Department who strive to bring the district's learning beliefs to life.
School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The district also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The district serves over 5,600 students in 18 schools with a diverse range of programs that are progressive and responsive to the educational needs and interests of students.

The successful candidate for this position must have:
  • A Diploma or Degree in Special Education, with coursework in the following areas: Reading Disabilities, Math Remediation, Exceptional Children, Behavior Interventions, and Assessment and Evaluation with training to use Level B assessment tools.
  • 5-10 years of recent experience as a Learning Support Teacher.
  • Extensive knowledge and practice in modification and adaptation strategies for various levels of student performance and in designing remediation techniques for students with learning difficulties.
  • Demonstrated skills in time management and record keeping; interpersonal, verbal, and written communication; conflict resolution; and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated philosophy that supports integration and inclusion for students with special needs;
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for students with special needs and students with different learning styles.
  • Ability to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate an IEP in consultation with classroom teachers, parents, students, district personnel and community professionals.
  • An understanding of computer technology, especially as it relates to students with special needs.
  • An understanding of assessment for learning and its applications in designing differentiated instructional strategies for use in classrooms and other learning situations.
  • Demonstrated leadership in working as a team member with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge of current research and practice in meeting the learning needs of students with social, behavioral, communication, sensory and learning difficulties, such as students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders.
  • Ability to implement social skills training programs, such as the effective use of social stories.
  • Experience creating/supporting functional curriculum.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and appropriate means of transportation.

The starting full-time salary for these teaching positions range from $63,670 to $116,190. Placement on a salary scale is subject to verification of experience and certification and will be done in accordance with the current collective agreement.
