Job summary

School District 72 is seeking a Student Supervisor for Sandowne Elementary School on Campbell River. The position is permanent and part-time, 1 hour per day (5 hours per week) while schools are in session, paying $27.03 per hour.

Supervisors ensure safety, model appropriate behavior, and assist with basic student needs. Reporting to the School Administrator, you will supervise during lunch, handle minor first-aid needs, and document incidents, while upholding district policies and commitments to

Qualifications

  • Six months previous experience in working with children such as volunteering or parenting.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in working with children and/or adolescents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Conflict resolution or non-violent crisis intervention training are assets.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid is an asset.
  • Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and stand/walk for the shift.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring a safe environment for all students within the school building and/or on the school grounds.
  • Handle minor first-aid cases as required.
  • Report incidents and complete required incident reports or safety concerns when required.
  • Directly supervise students during lunch breaks.

School District 72 operates throughout a large geographic area. Campbell River and Quadra Island schools and our school board office are located on the traditional territory of the Liǧʷiɫdaxʷ people. School District 72 also encompasses the traditional territory of the Klahoose (Cortes), K'ómoks (Sayward), and χʷɛmaɬkʷu (Bute Inlet) First Nations.

School District 72 is looking for a Student Supervisor to join our team of professionals at Sandowne Elementary School who strive to bring the district's learning beliefs to life.

School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The district also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The district serves over 5,600 students in 18 schools with a diverse range of programs that are progressive and responsive to the educational needs and interests of students.

About The Role

Reporting to the School Administrator, the Student Supervisor will be required to supervise students within the school building and on the school grounds as required. Student Supervisors build trust and respect with students while modeling and reinforcing proper behaviour and adherence to safety rules. The Student Supervisor position is one hour each day when schools are in session.

Specific Responsibilities
