Alberta Health Services is seeking a Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC with a strong background in maintaining HVAC systems in a hospital setting. The successful candidate will support engineering services while ensuring efficient operation and compliance with safety standards. This full-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to a safe environment for hospital occupants.
Your Opportunity:
The Temperature Control Mechanic/HVAC position reports to the Manager of Engineering Services, Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) at the University of Alberta Hospitals (UAH). The incumbent will assist in maintaining eight facilities totaling over 650,000 m² of clinical and mechanical space, including Acute Care, Laboratory, Research, Commercial, Institutional, and Industrial equipment.
Ensure all systems operate effectively to provide a safe and comfortable environment for hospital occupants, in compliance with FME and Site standards.
Performs maintenance, repair, alteration, and installation of HVAC control devices, system configurations, and air balancing.
Completion of a post-secondary education in a related trade or technology program.
HVACR Technician Certificate or Building Environmental Systems Technology Diploma, or a two-year diploma in a related field from an accredited Canadian institution (International credentials must be IQAS approved). Minimum 5 years’ experience as a ticketed HVAC technician, with at least 2 years in a hospital maintenance environment. Knowledge of ASHRAE Standard 170, CSA-Z317.2, Healthcare Infection Control, Electrical Code, Alberta Building Code, and Safety Regulations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to work independently and in teams, maintain confidentiality, and prioritize tasks. Strong analytical skills for system performance evaluation. Physical capability to perform required tasks. Excellent communication skills.
Experience with preventive maintenance, cost estimation, report preparation, and supply ordering. Reliability, independence, and ability to work under emergency conditions. Experience with HVAC systems in complex environments and strong analytical skills.
