We are currently seeking a talented Grade 3 French Immersion teacher (1.0 FTE) to join the team at Whitehorse Elementary School from August 21, 2025, to June 12, 2026.

Whitehorse Elementary is located within the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Taan Kwäch’än Council. It is a single-track French Immersion school serving grades K-7 with approximately 450 students. Our bilingual students enjoy learning in French every day, with specialty classes in music, outdoor education, applied art and design, and physical education, all instructed in French. We foster a vibrant sports culture with running clubs, intramural sports, and outdoor activities. Our music, arts, and movement programming in French aim to promote the arts. Qualifications and Experience:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in elementary education;
• Recent teaching experience and/or preservice practicum teaching experience in a primary French Immersion program;
• Experience using experiential and play-based instruction;
• Experience teaching and/or training in research-based practices in literacy acquisition in both French and English;
• Fully fluent in French and English;
• Experience integrating self-regulation and social-emotional care practices in the classroom is an asset;
• Postsecondary training in teaching French Immersion and/or second language acquisition would be an asset.

Knowledge, Skills, and Suitability:

Candidates should have, and may be assessed on, their:

• Knowledge of effective instructional practices in literacy and numeracy, including the ability to apply assessment for and of student learning within an inclusive French Immersion context;
• Effective classroom management, planning, and organization skills;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills when working with students, parents, administration, other staff, and consultants;
• Willingness to deliver curriculum through outdoor experiential activities;
• Ability to work as part of a professional team and participate in the total school program;
• Ability to provide positive intervention in a developmentally responsive way, including promoting student self-regulation and restorative approaches;
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations people and a culturally diverse student population.
