Job summary

School District 60 invites applications for a temporary part-time Prep/LAT/ELL Teacher at Wonowon School from Sep 1, 2026 to Jun 30, 2027. The 0.8 FTE position serves a small, diverse student body in a rural setting and requires BC teaching certification, inclusion expertise, and a collaborative approach with staff.

Candidate will plan short- and long-term lessons aligned to BC Curriculum, support ELL and special needs students, and maintain a positive, respectful classroom.

Qualifications

Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for).
Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach identified elementary subjects with differentiation.
Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet diverse needs.
Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills.
Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning; fosters a positive classroom community.
Belief in inclusion and potential of all students to learn.
Understanding of BC Curriculum and planning short- and long-term.
Willingness to work collaboratively with staff to enhance student learning.
Classroom management practices that are proactive and respectful of student dignity.
Experience working with children with special needs (ELL, ASD, FASD).
Ability to develop and implement IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs for students.
Must have reliable vehicle and able to travel on winter roads.

Job description

Position Description

A temporary part time (0.8) Prep/LAT/ELL Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at Wonowon School. Wonowon is a rural school located at mile 101 of the historic Alaska Highway, 85 km north of Fort St John. The school has five teachers, one of whom acts as head teacher. Wonowon receives district library and administrative support. Wonowon has a student population of 80, many of whom are of Russian-German background. The brand new school has four classrooms, a portable, a gym, and outdoor play area. See www.wonowon.prn.bc.ca for more information.

Please note that part-time teachers may be required to attend Pro-D or other non-instructional days on days when they are not regularly scheduled to work.

Qualifications And Experience

Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary years level
Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
Experience working with children with special needs
Training and experience teaching ELL, ASD, and FASD students
Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individual plans (IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs) for students with academic, social and emotional learning difficulties
Must have reliable vehicle and able to travel on winter roads

$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
$3,500 recruitment allowance

Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $72,720 - $118,770
Isolation allowance of $1236.79 paid over 10 months
