Job summary

British Columbia Public School Employers' Association, in partnership with School District No. 60 (Peace River North), seeks a temporary part-time Prep/LAT/ELL teacher for Wonowon School from Sept 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.

The role requires strong collaboration with staff, commitment to inclusion, and flexibility to attend pro-D days when not scheduled to work. The Wonowon community is rural, with a new four-classroom school and diverse student body.

Qualifications

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible).
  • Ability to teach identified subjects at elementary years level.
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation for diverse learners.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills.
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning.
  • Ability to plan short-term and long-term considering class composition.
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on enhancing student learning.
  • Experience with IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs for students with needs.
  • Must have reliable vehicle and travel on winter roads.

Job description

Position Description

A temporary part time (0.8) Prep/LAT/ELL Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at Wonowon School.

Please note that part-time teachers may be required to attend Pro-D or other non-instructional days on days when they are not regularly scheduled to work.

Wonowon is a rural school located at mile 101 of the historic Alaska Highway, 85 km north of Fort St John. The school has five teachers, one of whom acts as head teacher. Wonowon receives district library and administrative support. Wonowon has a student population of 80, many of whom are of Russian-German background. Qualifications and Experience
  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary years level
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Experience working with children with special needs
  • Training and experience teaching ELL, ASD, and FASD students
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individual plans (IEPs, LSPs, BIPs, AIPs) for students with academic, social and emotional learning difficulties
  • Must have reliable vehicle and able to travel on winter roads

Remuneration Package: Recognizing your value and contribution
  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $3,500 recruitment allowance
  • Fully covered premiums: Your benefits, our investment for full time employees. Benefits include pension, medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $72,720 - $118,770
  • Isolation allowance of $1236.79 paid over 10 months
  • Possible subsidized and affordable staff housing for rural positions
