Job description

Position Description

A temporary part time (0.8) Career Program Facilitator is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at the Key Learning Centre.

This position will focus on supporting students within a Distance/Online Learning context. Duties will include online instruction, advising enrollment consistent within Graduation 2023 guidelines, student tutorial, as well as tracking and reporting student progress.

The Key Learning Centre (KLC) is a Provincial Online Learning School (POLS) providing online learning to students within School District No. 60 and throughout the province of British Columbia.. As an alternative to traditional 'brick & mortar' schools we offer asynchronous, flexibly scheduled educational programming via an online delivery model.

The KLC has a staffing complement of nine teachers, nine support staff (clerical, EA, LAT, tech support) and administration. The staff is very innovative and takes full advantage of technologies to bridge distances and create an effective, vibrant social learning environment. Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to manage a career-based program and have prior experience or training in teaching using Online Learning (OL) methods. The position will focus on a career-based program in the Grade 10 to Grade 12 range.
  • A strong understanding of policies and procedures specific to both Online Learning and Career Programs for both public and independent schools.
  • Able to keep a running record and manage databases of registrations, activations, completions and funding generated.
  • Familiar with the British Columbia OL audit process and able to demonstrate record keeping procedures that are compliant within audit protocols and meet the needs of independent schools.
  • Able to provide relevant data to Key Learning Centre to ensure the SkilledTradesBC database is accurate and current.
  • Available for periodic in-person school visits and student worksite visits to support the teachers and students involved in the Independent Schools (IS) Careers Program across British Columbia.
  • Able to host onboarding and sustainment meetings year-round to introduce new schools and new staff at existing schools to the intricacies of the IS Program.
  • Able to manage the SkilledTradesBC scholarships between SD60 and relevant host schools (students).
  • An understanding and commitment to career education and willingness to adapt those programs to an OL environment.
  • Knowledge of OL course offerings and procedures would be an asset.
  • Aware of British Columbia Ministry of Education Career Programs Curriculum.
  • Able to realize the Ministry of Education initiatives dealing with 21st Century and personalized learning in an OL environment.
  • Able to develop and maintain relationships with independent schools around BC and the organizations that cover them.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a partnership with independent school staff and a working knowledge of the technology needed to deliver the online portion of an educational program. (ie. Zoom Whiteboard, Moodle, D2L Brightspace, Google Education, FileMaker, Adobe Acrobat, social media channels.)
  • Demonstrated ability to create new course content and to edit existing course content within multiple LMSs.
  • Ability to use online technology in the instructional process and reporting procedures.
  • A valid class 5 Driver’s License with access to a reliable mode of transportation.

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
