Job description

Position Description

A temporary full time (1.0) Late Primary/Early Intermediate Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026. The assignment will be at Anne Roberts Young Elementary School.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)
  • Committed to a co-planning model within a learning "pod" of three to four divisions
  • Willingness to share space and resources in a learning "pod" of three to four divisions within a flexible learning space environment
  • Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary years level
  • Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills
  • Experience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning. Demonstrated ability to create a positive classroom community contributing to a safe, caring, and healthy school where every student feels a sense of belonging
  • Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students to learn
  • Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan both short-term and long-term in consideration of class composition
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the foundation of enhancing student learning
  • Demonstrated use of classroom management practices that are pro-active and maintain student dignity
  • Demonstrated use of assessment practices that promote student learning and maintain student dignity
  • Working knowledge of the new curriculum to plan effectively
  • Working knowledge of Performance Based Assessment, Balanced Literacy, Phonemic Awareness Development
  • Working knowledge of current practice in teaching numeracy
  • Ability to use performance standards in reading, writing, numeracy and social responsibility
  • Committed to individualized instruction and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniques
  • Ability to work as part of a team to develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, emotional, and learning difficulties
  • Ability to assist in the implementation of individualized education plans for low incidence students
  • Knowledge and understanding regarding the needs of autistic children, commitment to use of visual supports
  • Experience working with educational assistants
  • Committed to working with staff on the school plan and with professional development
  • Ability to relate well with students, parents and staff members
  • Committed to following the goals and strategies outlined in the school improvement plan

  • Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)

Compensation

  • $2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas
  • $3,035 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)
  • Salary as per collective agreement. Current salary grid is $65,397 - $111,952
  • Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enroll in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance. Benefits are employer paid based on FTE
