Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Fort Saint John, BC or Grande Prairie, AB office is recruiting for a Telecommunications Technologist to join the team. This position reports to the Supervisor, Field Communications West in the Information Services Unit (ISU).

Our focus is to collaborate with our customers and colleagues to land cutting-edge technologies to help improve the way we work, maximize productivity, and reduce costs.

Pembina's Information Services Unit manages and maintains the company's infrastructure, provides technical support, ensures data security and accessibility, implements new technology, strategies for future development, manages vendors, and ensures compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Please note that this position can be based in either Grande Prairie, Alberta, or Fort St. John, British Columbia, and we welcome applications from new graduates.

Responsibilities:

1. The installation, maintenance, repair, and documentation of telecommunications and networking equipment including routers, switches, modems, digital radio systems, antennas, satellite, and voice systems;
2. Providing data transport of various communications protocols and formats including serial and IP (Nokia MPLS, TCP/IP);
3. Initiate, design, document, and maintain telecommunications systems at tower sites and pipeline facilities;
4. Install and upgrade new and existing field facilities to meet Pembina’s growing need for further information gathering and control of assets;
5. Provide support to Field Communications team and to Pembina Pipeline Operations;
6. Supervise contractors and provide on-call coverage as required;
7. Regular travel to remote Pembina locations;
8. Participate in an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Qualifications:

1. We are seeking a Network, Telecommunications, Electronics, or Wireless Systems Technology (or equivalent) graduate. Field experience is a definite asset but not essential;
2. Post-secondary education from a recognized technical training institution (such as NAIT, SAIT, BCIT, etc.);
3. The ideal candidate has 2+ years’ experience configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting medium to large scale networks;
4. New grads are welcome and will be considered;
5. Experience with Nokia, 4RF, iDirect or Cisco telecommunications hardware/networks is an asset;
6. Experience with microwave and narrow band radio systems as well as SCADA communications would be an asset;
7. Must be a self-starter and dedicated team member;
8. Must be willing to work in both office and field environments;
9. Ability to perform with minimal supervision;
10. Ability to multitask and respond to time constraints and deadlines;
11. Commitment to expanding knowledge and experience in the telecommunications field;
12. Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills;
13. Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License or valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License depending on location;
14. Comfortable with safely driving a full-sized pick-up truck on Oil Field/Haul roads.
