Job description

What You Will Be Doing:

As an Intermediate/senior member of our Telecom Engineering team, you will play a key role in shaping the next generation of the company telecommunications network. You will design high performance transport systems and critical connectivity solutions that support utility operations, SCADA, grid protection, and cybersecurity across the province.

  • Lead the design of telecom networks and circuits, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security needed to support real‑time grid operations and future utility technologies.
  • Act as the Professional of Record (PoR) for internal designs and act as Owner’s Engineer for external engineering service provider submissions. You will ensure that every design meets stringent safety, technical, and regulatory requirements while maintaining the company’s engineering excellence.
  • Provide design calculations, drawings and other installation and circuit implementation documentation for the construction of telecom infrastructure including microwave radio links, fiber optic networks, WiMAX radio network, Satellite communications, Power Line Carrier links, LTE, leased facilities, IP/MPLS networks, Digital cross‑connect switches, SONET multiplexer, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, teleprotection, and –48 VDC power systems.
  • Design and implement IP and MPLS network architectures for utility telecommunications systems, including network planning, configuration, lab validation, interoperability testing, and migration execution. This also includes developing advanced QoS and traffic engineering solutions to ensure deterministic performance for mission‑critical services such as SCADA and protection systems, supported by detailed engineering documentation, field validation, and technical assistance during cutover.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers and construction teams to meet safety, cost, and milestones. You will resolve complex field issues, guide construction teams, and provide essential technical leadership during installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Conduct specialized engineering studies and deep technical investigations to solve challenging problems in transport networks, SCADA communications, protection circuits, and cybersecurity‑related telecom infrastructure.
  • Ensure all engineering work complies with EGBC requirements, the company standards, and industry best practices, reinforcing a culture of technical integrity and professional accountability.
  • Participate in site visits and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to confirm design intent, support field implementation, and contribute to maintenance and emergency restoration activities when critical telecom systems are impacted.
What You Must Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering (or a closely related discipline) from a recognized postsecondary institution.
  • Registered as a P.Eng. or EIT with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC); or currently registered as a P.Eng. or EIT in another Canadian province or internationally; or able to demonstrate active pursuit of registration with EGBC.
  • Design experience with at least one of the following telecom technologies: Microwave radio links, fiber optic networks (DWDM/OTN), WiMAX radio network, satellite communications, Power Line Carrier links, LTE, leased facilities, Digital cross‑connect switches, SONET multiplexer, Tetra/VHF/UHF mobile radio, teleprotection, –48 VDC power systems and grounding; and TDM (SONET/PDH) and IP/MPLS circuits, including circuits carrying teleprotection and RAS.
  • Experience in IP/MPLS architecture and design—covering IPv4/IPv6, OSPF, IS‑IS, BGP, MPLS/VPN, EVPN, Segment Routing, QoS, Traffic Engineering, and security across large‑scale LAN/WAN environments.
  • Experience configuring and deploying Nokia IP/MPLS platforms including L2/L3VPN, and QoS technologies.
  • Cisco Certified Internet Expert (CCIE) is considered an asset.
  • Nokia NRS II (Nokia Network Routing Specialist) Certification or Nokia Certified Service Routing Architect (SRA) certification are considered assets.
  • We are seeking candidates at multiple career levels. Requirements include:
    • Senior Engineer: 8+ years of relevant experience
    • Engineer 2: 4+ years of relevant experience
    • Candidates with less experience may be considered for an Engineer 1 position (must be or eligible to be registered as an EIT with EGBC).
  • Demonstrated excellence in technical writing and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative on complex problems, and seek guidance when necessary.
  • A solid understanding of project management processes, contract management, and construction oversight.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing is required for site visits and field support.
