Job description

Project Overview

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km west-southwest of Squamish, British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site, which would have a storage capacity of 250,000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The Telecom Systems Lead is responsible for ensuring all telecom and operational communication systems are designed, implemented, and transitioned into operations effectively. The position acts as a key liaison between project teams and operations, providing technical support, coordination, and validation throughout the project lifecycle. It focuses on field communications, safety systems, and plant-level OT telecom infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support project delivery by ensuring telecom and operational systems (e.g., VoIP, PBX, SCADA, CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, personnel safety monitoring, marine and terrestrial radio systems, etc.) are designed, configured, and implemented to meet day‑to‑day operational needs
  • Participate in requirement reviews, system design reviews, and system acceptance activities from an operations perspective
  • Ensure Telecom and OT systems meet operational requirements including reliability, usability, and maintainability
  • Provide technical oversight and support for telecom and OT systems throughout deployment, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness for plant operations
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors, vendors, project teams, and operations teams to ensure a smooth transition of telecom and OT systems from project delivery to steady‑state operations
  • Identify and report operational gaps or risks in proposed telecom and OT system designs or configurations and provide mitigation recommendations
  • Monitor system performance and assist in troubleshooting issues post‑implementation
  • Maintain and update documentation including technical specs, configuration records, and operational procedures
  • Ensure integration with SCADA, DCS, and enterprise IT systems
  • Coordinate, engage, and manage external service providers (e.g., telecom companies, intermediaries, and niche service vendors), including technical clarification, RFP preparation, technical evaluation and contract management
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in supporting telecom and OT systems, preferably in industrial, energy, or Oil & Gas environments
  • Strong understanding of operational requirements in a field or plant environment (e.g., system reliability, ease of use, maintainability)
  • Hands‑on experience with VoIP, SIP, PBX, radio communication systems, and LTE networks
  • Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, and plant communication systems
  • Proficient in technical documentation and system lifecycle management
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and problem‑solving skills
  • Industry experience in Oil & Gas, utilities, or critical infrastructure is strongly preferred
  • Strong vendor coordination and stakeholder management capability

  • Experience working and problem solving with centralized global remote support models and processes

  • Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes

  • A valid driver's license and passport (Canadian passport or passport with US Visa)
  • Position is based in Vancouver, BC, with travel to Squamish (site)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
