This is done by assessing and trending risk, capital/operating expenditures and system performance; by applying lifecycle models and methodologies; and by creating a long-term view of maintenance activities and corresponding investment requirements. By understanding the cost, risk and performance implications of asset management decisions, AltaLink ensures that the needs of the power system are balanced with the needs of end users.

The Telecom Lifecycle Engineer will be a key member of the Lifecycle Maintenance Engineering team responsible for a wide range of maintenance work. The successful candidate will work with internal and external staff to perform analysis and performance trending of Telecom devices and present maintenance solutions including updated maintenance practices to immediate replacement of impacted equipment. This position will appeal to self-driven individuals who are keen to understand equipment failure and work with like-minded individuals to solve performance issues. This position will report to the Manager, Lifecyle Maintenance Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive preventative maintenance programs for telecom equipment to enhance the longevity and reliability while optimizing the effectiveness and efficiency of offline maintenance.
  • Monitor in-service devices for widespread issues related to hardware and firmware.
  • Investigate and resolve systemic telecom equipment defects and deficiencies.
  • Perform end of life expectancy assessments and equipment condition assessments.
  • Provide innovative solutions for system reliability, safety and efficiency improvements.
  • Perform telecom equipment sparing assessments.
  • Work closely with Field Technologists in troubleshooting and resolving issues during maintenance/testing in consultation with other internal partners.
  • Participate in the development, modification or interpretation of standards and practices associated with maintenance.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with suppliers, partners and internal clients that result in growing understanding, good decisions, and effective cooperation.
  • Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.
Qualifications
  • Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PEng.) with the Association of Professional Engineers, and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or qualifies for registration with APEGA.
  • Formal training in Telecom would be an asset.
  • Proven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of modern Telecom devices in utility applications.
