Job description

Overview

In a multicultural and international environment, a good command of English is required to interact with part of our client base and with international teams. What You’ll Do

• Develop and maintain chillers’ control software, including the application and the user interface (UI), manage software versions, maintain software and document changes, and update IO and data points lists.
• Provide technical support and expertise for troubleshooting, verification, and validation related to controls for chillers in service or during R&D prototype testing.
• Perform software testing, commissioning, and startup of chillers and heat pumps.
• Write technical documents related to controls design and programming such as sequences of operations, user guides and software manuals.
• Stay up to date with the latest developments in the controls field.
• Interface with controls components suppliers and advise the supply chain to ensure components meet design requirements.
• Collaborate with mechanical and electrical design teams to ensure coherent overall product design.
• Implement, configure and fine-tune industrial communication protocols based on serial and Ethernet, evaluating performance and hardware requirements.
• Identify areas for improvement and implement controls system enhancements.
• Estimate scope of work and project timelines for controls design projects.
• Provide mentoring and coaching to junior staff on controls design methods and tools for chillers.

Experience / Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.

Education / Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in controls design, industrial automation or a related field.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency with control development software using standard programming languages such as Function Block Diagram (FBD), Ladder Logic (LD), and Structured Text (ST), with preference for FBD and ST.
• Experience with development software for HMI design (machine control or data acquisition systems).
• Extensive knowledge of serial and Ethernet industrial communication protocols; HVAC-specific protocols are a plus.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming concepts as applied to controls programming.
• Experience with hardware platforms used in control systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication of technical topics.
• Knowledge of control system instrumentation.
• Knowledge of other programming languages (C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Python) is an asset but not required.
• Understanding of the hierarchy and interaction of different control system layers.
• Proven track record in designing control projects and related responsibilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote).
• Problem-solving, teamwork and the ability to work independently, with attention to detail.

Ability to communicate in French with our team in Quebec and in English in a multicultural and international environment to interact with clients and teams.
