Job Title: Technologist Assistant

Status: Temporary Full Time & Temporary Part Time

Department: CT Scan & X Ray, LHAP and LHO

Program: Diagnostic Imaging Services

8 Hour Shifts, days/nights/weekends/evenings Schedule (Subject to Change)

Location: Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering and Oshawa

Wage Schedule: $25.560 - $31.860 per hour

Diagnostic Imaging provides services to outpatients, inpatients and emergency patients over a wide variety of modalities including CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, ultrasound, x-ray, and mammography. Under the direction of the Radiologist and DI Manager, with oversight from a Technologist, the Technologist Assistant will support the DI team to ensure efficient workflow and support both patients and Technologists.

The Technologist Assistant will support MRTs by coordinating patient requests, communicating preparation needs, verifying bloodwork, organizing portering, assisting with patient transfers, inserting IVs (if trained), changing MRI coils, positioning patients, and handling imaging equipment.

They will also provide non-clinical support such as preparing rooms, restocking supplies, scanning documents into PACS, and supporting scan activities by confirming patient status and verifying protocols.

Qualifications:

  • Previous clinical experience as a Medical Radiation Technologist or internationally trained physicians and other Regulated Health Professionals preferred
  • Pursuing designation with the CMIRTO preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Medical Terminology and Anatomy, experienced with positioning
  • Experience with patient care, ALARA, radiation safety, sterile technique, and needle safety preferred
  • Problem-solving skills, organizational skills, ability to work independently or in a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Understanding of safety programs and participation in education

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preparing patients for studies, including answering questions and changing patients
  • Inserting and preparing IV access lines (if trained)
  • Changing MRI coils if required
  • Receiving patients, conducting basic transfer of accountability, and communicating with the DI team
  • Performing positive patient identification
  • Assisting in patient transfers and positioning
  • Assisting with clinical documentation in RIS/PACS
  • Monitoring patient queues and ensuring timely flow
  • Verifying exam protocols and priorities
  • Communicating with hospital units about patient preparation
  • Reviewing orders and documents, reporting concerns
  • Scheduling patients in collaboration with the team
  • Handling imaging equipment within scope and competency
  • Answering phones and providing responses
  • Ensuring scan rooms are prepared with supplies and equipment
  • Assisting Radiologists with procedures
  • Performing additional duties as assigned
