Job Profile
Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Drafting and Graphics Branch, and the Senior Drawing Control Technologist (Technologist 3), the Technologist 2 of the Underground Structures (UGS) Drawing Review work section reviews UGS Drawing Submissions, monitors and reports progress, trains junior staff, assigns work to junior staff, investigates and assists to resolve drawing submission issues, maintain workflow documentation, and perform other general duties as required.
As The Technologist 2,you Will
- Perform UGS Drawing Reviews following a documented process.
- Monitor and report on the progress of incoming and completed UGS drawing submissions.
- Assist with the maintenance of the Department’s UGS Drawing Tracking software.
- Train junior staff on the UGS Drawing Review process, including the use of GIS and EDMA.
- Plan and assign work to junior staff and monitor the work of junior technologists or teams as required.
- Assist junior staff to resolve drawing submission issues from a WWD perspective.
- Maintains the documentation for the UGS Drawing Review process.
- Perform or delegate various information requests received by the Branch.
- Perform other general duties as required.
Your Education And Qualifications Include
- Must be a graduate in Engineering Technology from a recognized Institute of Technology, such as Red River College.
- Must be eligible for membership in C.T.T.A.M. (Certified Technicians & Technologists Association of Manitoba) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Certified Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.).
- Five (5) years’ technical experience related to the position, including proficiency in performing drawing quality control reviews.
- Prior experience in training others on the UGS Drawing Review process would be preferred.
- Prior experience with higher level/difficult review of UGS Approvals would be preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Access, including demonstrated ability to design and perform complex queries in both Access and Excel.
- Demonstrated proficiency with the Electronic Drawing Management Application (EDMA) would be preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Computer Aided Drafting software, specifically AutoCAD.
- Demonstrated ability in the use of GIS.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor the work of junior technologists or teams as required by the position.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings from various Utilities (Water, Sewer, Hydro, Gas, Electrical, etc.) and Development types (Residential, Commercial, Private, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to carry out project work as directed and to prepare or complete required reports.
- Knowledge of existing Department facilities such as aqueducts, Feeder Mains, water reservoirs, etc.
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, management, other civic department personnel, external sources and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
