A military organization is seeking a military technician in weapons engineering. Responsibilities include maintaining weapons systems and electronic equipment on ships. Candidates must have at least Grade 10 and preferred qualifications include a college diploma or 'Red Seal' certification. The role offers specialized training, competitive salary, and benefits.
As a military technician in weapons engineering, you will be responsible for performing corrective and preventive maintenance activities related to weapons systems, communications, radars, and maritime navigation onboard ships.
Technicians primarily work aboard ships based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, or Esquimalt, British Columbia. They participate in unique adventures and face challenges specific to maritime work, often working in tight or exposed environments to repair and maintain equipment.
Typically, they work regular day shifts onboard assigned ships. In addition to their primary tasks, subordinate weapons engineering technicians may perform other duties such as cleaning, painting, working in the cafeteria, or assisting with supply loading.
If you choose a career in the Regular Force, you will be assigned to your first base after completing the required training. While there is some flexibility regarding postings, not all requests can be accommodated, and relocations are expected during your career. Reserve Force members are assigned to a specific reserve unit, working part-time, usually one evening a week and some weekends, with the possibility of full-time employment.
This position requires candidates to have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondary IV in Quebec, with applied mathematics (Mathematics 426 or TS 4 in Quebec). Passing a physics course at any level is an asset.
The ideal candidate will have a college diploma or a 'Red Seal' certification for a related civilian profession. The CAF will assess your training and experience to optimize your progression after basic military qualification.
Foreign studies may be recognized.
As this role requires specialized training, the CAF will cover tuition fees for recruits enrolled in an approved college program. Participants follow basic military training and summer on-the-job training. The full-time salary includes medical and dental coverage, paid vacations, and other benefits. In exchange for the educational subsidy, recruits commit to serving in the CAF for a specified period. Interested candidates should apply through the CAF and the appropriate college.
The initial training phase is the Basic Military Qualification Course at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, covering basic skills and common knowledge for all CAF professions. The training is physically demanding to meet CAF fitness standards.
