Who We Are

CAD Railway Industries is an ambitious Quebec-based company with over 60 years of experience, specializing in the repair, conversion, and refurbishment of railway rolling stock (freight cars and all types of locomotives). We operate workshops and offices in Montreal (Lachine sector) and in Alberta, under the Caltrax banner.

Over the years, our mission has evolved to become that of a responsible company focused on repairing and extending the life of the equipment entrusted to us by our clients—or, in many cases, modernizing it and literally giving it a second life.

As part of their projects, our teams design equipment tailored to meet the needs of clients operating in both the freight and passenger sectors.

Position Summary

This role is part of the engineering team and supports the diagnosis, repair, and optimization of locomotive mechanical systems. It involves responsibilities such as failure analysis, performance testing, and technical modifications. The position requires strong technical expertise, sharp analytical skills, and a high level of rigor in documentation and compliance with standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expertise in trouble shooting mechanical issues with locomotives, such as malfunctions in engines, compressors, cooling systems and trucks.
  • Identify problematic systems/parts to ascertain performance failures using diagnostic and faultfinding techniques.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications.
  • Assist in the development of modifications and equipment testing.
  • Interface with client and supplier technical staff to identify technical reliability solutions.
  • Work with electrical teams to address system integrations and performance enhancements
  • Write technical reports, intervention reports and maintain technical documentation.
  • Participate in training programs to stay current with technological advancements in locomotive mechanical systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • DEC in Mechanical Engineering Technology or relevant experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar position
  • Ability to read with accuracy diesel engine manuals, locomotive schematics, service bulletins, maintenance instructions and other craft related documentation.
  • Ability to read and understand FRA and company rules, specifications and guidelines.
  • Very good knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD & Solidworks an asset
  • Good organizational skills, autonomy, attention to detail, and rigor
  • Ability to work under pressure and good priority management
  • Attention to detail, precision, analytical skills, autonomy, and good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent command of French and English, both spoken and written.
