Job description

Role Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent, Process Optimization or designate, the Technician, Metallurgy & Technology - Temporary, is responsible for conducting technical investigations that contribute to the development and improvement of operating plant processes and process control across all plants in Trail Operations. The role involves evaluating potential future flowsheet modifications, providing technical assistance on operating and maintenance problems, and working both independently and as part of a team. The work primarily focuses on non-routine tasks and requires adaptability to shifting priorities.

Please note that the work schedule may vary, including combinations of 5x2 and/or 4x4 days/nights or other continuous operation schedules during piloting/test trials.

Responsibilities
  • Safety leadership: Be a courageous safety leader, adhering to safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Plant investigations: Conduct process sampling surveys, measure operating parameters, and compile data from various sources.
  • Technical support: Provide assistance to Operations on projects and troubleshoot plant process issues.
  • Laboratory investigations: Conduct tests using lab and pilot-scale equipment based on detailed or general test plans.
  • Equipment design and assembly: Design, assemble, or coordinate the fabrication of laboratory, pilot, or plant-scale equipment.
  • Procedures development: Assist in developing operating procedures.
  • Communication: Maintain effective communication with technical personnel, operators, supervision, and trades.
  • Testing and analysis: Perform routine testing, sampling, and analyses of plant samples.
  • Reporting: Submit detailed reports with data, analysis, and recommendations.
  • Training: Provide training to operating personnel and assist in training junior technicians and engineers.
  • Recommendations: Assist in recommending corrective actions within projects.
  • Knowledge application: Use metallurgical knowledge to adapt to new plants or processes, and potentially undertake assignments in other areas.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of a recognized Institute of Technology or University in metallurgical, mineral processing, or chemical sciences, or certified with ASTTBC in a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience with knowledge of physical, chemical, and metallurgical processes.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, with strong time management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Experience with Trail’s process data systems (e.g., PDH, LIMS, GE Aps) or metallurgical modeling software is an asset.

Hourly Rate: $45.00/hour
