Our Canadian team is expanding. We are recruiting a Technician Mechanical Piping Designer to join our Global Consulting line in the Burlington office.

About The Role
  • Progressive experience with detailed industrial piping systems, particularly in chemical and food & beverage industries.
  • Preparation of piping isometrics, line lists, and material take-offs.
  • Understanding of pipe support design requirements and movements.
  • Experience in preparing mechanical equipment layouts, general arrangement plans, and sections.
  • Ability to coordinate with structural, electrical, HVAC disciplines to prevent clashes.
  • Preparation of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Knowledge of material specifications and standards.
  • Field experience safely obtaining existing site information regarding pipe routing, supports, and sizes to develop background drawings with limited assistance.
  • Knowledge of engineering workflow processes and industry standards.
  • Ability to work closely with senior engineers and designers on deliverables within challenging schedules.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior piping designers.
  • Experience in 3D modelling using AutoCAD Plant 3D; familiarity with SmartPlant is an asset.
  • Creating layouts and 3D models for process equipment and piping from P&IDs, vendor drawings, and specifications, then generating 2D drawings from models.
  • Designing for accessibility, safety, and ease of maintenance around equipment.
  • Skilled in working with process fluids such as steam, condensate, compressed air, and thermal fluids.
About You
  • Diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting Technology (Process Piping Major) or a relevant Process Piping Drafting Certificate with experience.
  • 7–10 years of piping design experience in a consulting engineering firm on industrial or chemical plant projects.
  • Fieldwork experience is a strong asset.
  • Attention to detail and effective communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
  • Understanding of engineering design principles, codes, and regulations.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to site independently.
