Sinai Health is looking for a Technician IV to support our Allograft Technologies (Bone Bank) Department at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.

In this role you will:

  • Perform duties and assignments in accordance with the Mount Sinai Allograft Technologies’ established procedures, in conformity with the American Association of Tissue Bank Standards (AATB) and Health Canada Regulations.
  • Assist in performing quality control in accordance with industry standards and the department's SOPs.
  • Label, package, store, distribute, and document tracking of all allograft products.
  • Document and compile medical/social behavioral history for the acceptability of tissue recovery.
  • Submit samples for laboratory testing according to department SOPs.
  • Participate with hospitals/physicians/Trillium Gift of Life Network by ongoing communications related to donation, requests for records, and allograft.
  • Assist with the Quality Framework in the implementation of new processes and new SOPs as required including updating SOPs when new methodologies and techniques become available.
  • Help in solving problems, following up on action plans and issues as required.
  • Maintain ongoing inventory of allograft products and supplies within the bank.
  • Communicate with surgeons by telephone, email, or fax regarding requests for allograft products.
  • Ensure allograft products are distributed appropriately for the surgery to be performed, and, at short notice, distribute allograft products in an emergency situation.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment and report any malfunctions to Management.
  • Use a database or the laboratory information system to track specimen testing.
  • Perform dissection of tissues in a sterile manner.
  • Conduct aseptic work using a biological safety cabinet and/or clean room.
  • Prepare reagents and solutions applicable to allograft storage.
  • Conduct duties within Mount Sinai Allograft Technologies policies and procedures.
  • Provide customer focused service.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Mandatory:

  • Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in a related area of specialization (Health Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, etc.) or equivalent combined education and experience.
  • Maintained Certification as Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) obtained from the American Association of Tissue Banks throughout employment in this position. If not currently certified, you must be eligible to write the certification test within 2 years of hire.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience in tissue banking, pharmaceutical, medical device, or direct health care related field.
  • Current certification as Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS).

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to conduct work with a high level of accuracy.
  • Understands and follows good documentation practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications and efficient in using Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Requires working knowledge of ISO, AATB standards, Health Canada, and FDA regulations with regards to tissue donor eligibility.
  • Requires strong knowledge of medical terminology (e.g. anatomy).
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt to change.
  • Knowledgeable of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (W.H.M.I.S.) and accessibility of Material Safety Data Sheets (M.S.D.S.).
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
