Technician, IT Network and Information Systems (Level 3)

Background

NuChem Sciences, a Sygnature Discovery business and a contract research company specializing in organic synthesis and biology, is expanding and seeking a Technician, IT Network and Information Systems (Level 3). NuChem offers integrated services to early drug discovery projects in areas such as Medicinal Chemistry, ADME / PK, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, and in vivo Pharmacology.

About the role

The Technician will manage physical and virtual network infrastructure, including switches, access points, firewalls, servers, and storage across on-premise, public, and private cloud environments. Responsibilities include server and VM upgrades, monitoring, patching, managing groups and roles in AD 365, Azure, and AWS, troubleshooting, and ensuring application functionality. The role also involves configuring API functionalities and maintaining backups.

Role and Responsibilities

Technical

  • Support business development with technical insights.
  • Act as escalation point for infrastructure issues.
  • Perform general IT tasks, demonstrating flexibility.
  • Manage network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, and Wi-Fi access points.
  • Handle VLAN, IP configurations, and documentation.
  • Implement network monitoring tools.
  • Manage telephony systems, including Zoom configuration.
  • Maintain Azure/AWS routing and connectivity.
  • Oversee ISP relations.
  • Develop and manage Azure and AWS resources.
  • Create and manage virtual and physical servers and storage.
  • Manage Group Policy and server responsibilities.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose system issues.
  • Configure API functionalities for integrations.
  • Manage storage operations and backups.

Operational

  • Coordinate with IT team and broader business.
  • Review helpdesk tickets for technical support needs.

Leadership

  • Support and mentor junior colleagues.
  • Contribute to change management processes.
  • Promote effective use of IT tools and documentation.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer sciences with 2+ years of relevant experience or DEC with over 3 years of experience.
  • Knowledge of computer maintenance tools and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of server services (AD, DNS, DHCP, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Azure and AWS.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Good communication skills in French and English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Office, and Linux (desirable).
  • Curious, quick learner, autonomous.
  • Organized with good time management.
  • Experience in laboratory or instrument troubleshooting related to science is a plus.
