ABOUT THE ROLE :

The Technical Writer will be a member of the HSO standards development team, reporting to the Senior Program Manager. HSO standards are evidence-based criteria and guidelines promoting quality and safety in health and social services. These standards serve as the basis for cutting-edge accreditation programs and robust public policies.

In this role and for the duration of this contract (8 months), the Technical Writer will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to complete two primary objectives. These projects will directly support the improvement of the clarity, consistency, and usability of key documents that are critical to HSO’s operations.

Objective 1 : To Diligently Review and Update the HSO Master Glossary

The Technical Writer will review and update the HSO Master Glossary, which includes all terms and definitions used in HSO standards and documents. In this Master Glossary, the Technical Writer needs to ensure that all terms are accurately defined, aligned with the guiding principles, and consistent with HSO's operational standards. For this project, the Technical Writer will collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and interest holders to verify the accuracy and relevance of terms.

Objective 2 : To Diligently Review and Update the HSO Writing Guide

The Technical Writer will review and update the HSO Writing Guide, enhancing its clarity, accessibility, and alignment with best practices for technical writing in health and social services. For this project, the Technical Writer will review and update the current Writing Guide for accuracy, usability, and alignment with HSO Standards Operating Procedures.

Main Responsibilities :

  • Effectively scopes and delivers the projects on time.
  • Collaborates with team members across business units, and subject matter experts.
  • Efficiently collates and interprets complex information from subject-matter experts to develop, organize and process documentation.
  • Composes, proofs, edits and revises documents following standards development procedures.
  • Creates, continuously improves, and maintains content templates that comply with standards development procedures.
  • Integrates content into a consistent voice, meeting the needs of the target audience.
  • Works independently while seeking guidance or support when needed.

Must Have Qualifications :

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, or relevant technical field.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a scientific, technical or regulatory writer.
  • Proven track record to understand complex subject matter and converting to standards content.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with an attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and health literacy principles.
  • Highly organized with strong prioritization skills, capable of managing multiple competing project deliverables.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to take initiative with critical thinking skills, while raising risks and barriers to the Senior Project Manager in a timely manner.
  • Strong commitment to producing accurate, high-quality results.

Desired Qualifications :

  • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
  • Certification in technical writing.
  • Experience in the healthcare sector.
  • Background in standards development, accreditation or regulation.
