Major Duties

The Technical Writer will create, edit, and review written content and illustrations for custom automation systems. They will ensure all documentation activities are executed with high attention to detail, aligning with cutting-edge automation technologies.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Ensure all business activities comply with the ATS Code of Business Conduct and uphold high ethical standards.
  • Follow all health and safety rules and procedures.
  • Adhere to departmental procedures and workflows.
  • Learn complex concepts and produce clear, organized content following departmental guidelines.
  • Interview subject matter experts and utilize drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation to develop technical manuals.
  • Create supporting illustrations and photographs that align with departmental standards.
  • Manage customer documentation shipments and archive electronic and printed copies.
  • Organize and index third-party manufacturer documentation.
  • Support the training department as needed.
  • Track and record project documentation status.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and other duties as assigned.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.
  • Comply with CSA N299/B51/N285/NQA Quality standards as specified.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
  • Minimum college diploma in engineering technology or equivalent technical field experience (e.g., mechanical technician).
  • At least two years of experience in technical writing, support, or report writing within engineering or manufacturing environments.
Must Have
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical skills, and ability to interpret drawings and schematics.
  • Understanding of machinery dynamics, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic systems, and PLCs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven technical writing ability.
  • Consistency in style and terminology in documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint).
  • Basic skills in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for illustrations.
  • Basic proficiency with vector-based illustration software.
  • Quick learner of new software and hardware concepts.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and continuous improvement.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, Inkscape, Adobe Photoshop.
  • Experience with Adobe FrameMaker.
  • Industry experience in nuclear, aerospace, manufacturing, or aseptic packaging.
