Position Summary

YW Tech Lab Instructor is responsible for implementing a hybrid, ten-week technical training program primarily focusing on remote learning. Reporting directly to the Program Manager, the Instructor will collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure program participants develop the essential skills required to succeed in the tech industry.

This role involves curating and adapting curriculum content and learning resources to meet the varied needs of adult learners. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, a passion for education, and the ability to foster an engaging, comprehensive learning environment that supports participant growth and workforce readiness.

Essential Job Functions:

YW Tech Lab Instructor is responsible for teaching classes and assigning coursework Monday through Thursday, with office hours available on Fridays by appointment. When facilitating independent learning, the instructor will provide assignments at least 48 hours in advance. Classes may be scheduled during weekday afternoons or evenings based on program needs.

  • The Instructor will be responsible for preparing and uploading materials to Google Classroom weekly. This platform will include modules, check-ins, group work, readings, and assignments.
  • The Instructor must ensure participant engagement, provide lesson clarity, and align content relevancy to the field.
  • Utilize Coursera as a key learning platform for course instruction- be familiar with the selected Coursera content, guide participants through the modules, and supplement learning with additional instructions when needed.
  • Ensure course content is engaging, accessible, and aligned with participants' learning needs.
  • YW Tech Lab Instructor will be responsive to student questions through in-person meetups, email, phone calls, and other forms of communication. Additionally, the instructor will submit bi-weekly class summaries, including updates on student progress, curriculum developments, troubleshooting needs, and attendance records.
  • YW Tech Lab Instructor will also provide outreach and student orientation support and facilitate connections with employers to arrange guest speakers and placement, when applicable.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager and staff to track progress and support participants’ career goals.

Requirements

Education:

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Education, or a related field preferred.

Relevant industry certifications are strongly encouraged.

Minimum of 2–3 years of experience teaching or facilitating technical training in a classroom or virtual environment.

Hands-on experience in IT Support, Cybersecurity, or related technical fields.

Experience designing or adapting curriculum and instructional materials for adult learners or non-traditional students is a plus.

Experience:

Minimum 2–3 years of experience delivering technical training in IT Support, Cybersecurity, or related technology fields.

Proven ability to teach and explain complex technical concepts to adult learners with varying levels of experience.

Experience using and managing virtual learning platforms such as Google Classroom, Zoom, or similar tools.

Familiarity with curriculum development, including creating modules, assignments, and assessments.

Strong organizational skills and ability to manage instructional timelines and participant engagement.

Experience supporting underrepresented populations or working in workforce development programs is a plus.

License or Certifications:

CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ (preferred for IT Support and Cybersecurity instructors)

Google IT Support Professional Certificate (a plus)

Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals or equivalent (optional but valuable)

Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) or equivalent instructional certification (preferred)

Any state-recognized teaching or training certification (if applicable)

Valid driver’s license (if travel is required)

Schedule:

The Instructor will follow a Monday through Friday schedule. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday, with Friday reserved for office hours by appointment. Instruction may take place in the afternoon or evening, depending on participant availability. This position supports a hybrid model, with a mix of remote instruction and in-person engagement when necessary.
