Technical Services Manager - Metallurgist

PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for technical services to increase Castle's market share. Works with sales and technical support staff to develop meaningful commercial relationships with target customers and manage specific account relationships.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (performs other duties as assigned):

1. Provides technical services by coordinating requests for technical information with the proper mills to respond to district/customer requests, material specification reviews, and the writing of Castle MD specifications.
2. Interacts with key suppliers and end users to develop and sustain profitable relationships.
3. Assists in training the sales force and other employees in product and market goals to promote increased sales within focused market segments.
4. Supports business unit and district sales staff by maintaining involvement with strategic business pieces.
5. Provides input to procurement to ensure a strategic and competitive supply of products.
6. Maintains awareness of current developments in the metals business to aid in developing leading edge products and services.
7. Develops and distributes quarterly newsletters to the sales team highlighting key benefits of the company's products and services.
8. May develop marketing literature for sales staff and customers, and publish articles in trade publications to enhance the company's visibility.
9. Works closely with the quality department on quality audits, process updates, and handling quality concerns.
10. Provides on-site tours for customers and shares expertise.
11. Oversees test report certification and re-certification processes.
12. Performs metallurgical analyses for customer and mill claims.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's Degree
• Five years of experience in sales and/or marketing within the metals industry
• Solid business acumen with demonstrated knowledge of the metals industry
• Knowledge of inventory management systems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to initiate and sustain productive business relationships
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
• Solid presentation and negotiation skills
• Ability to develop marketing plans aligned with sales objectives
• Ability to manage long-term projects and programs
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to engage others in marketing and sales goals

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

• General office environment (keyboard, mouse, telephone use)
• Manual dexterity (grasp, hand/wrist movement)
• Standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching
• Exposure to powered industrial equipment
• Use of PPE according to training
